The Voice and Face of Tao is a video version of the "Tao Portrait" project from the 2002 Tao of Photography seminar at UC Blue Ash College. Each seminar participant was required to make at least 36 portraits of each of the other participants, with the session occurring in a public place. In this case, it was the front porch and yard of the old Southgate House. Everyone is engaging in the same activity at the same time, in full view an any passersby. The purpose of the activity was to "sand away" the photographer's focus on self through an immersive, lengthy process involving total engagement with one another as both viewer and subject. The soundtrack is composed of an individual track for each participant, all running simultaneously at the same level to create the babbling sound of water rushing, out of which emerges distinct statements culled from the participant's journals and artists's statements. In addition, one track is composed of quotes from Lao Tzu, Chuang Tzu and others.
