Dr. Michael Washington, Professor of History and African American Studies at Northern Kentucky University, and a Distinguished Alumnus of UC Blue Ash College, presents "Segregation in the Suburbs: The Hazelwood Story." The talk focuses on efforts by the residents of Hazelwood, a majority black community in Blue Ash, to fight educational segregation in the 1930s and 1940s. This is an important but little known part of Cincinnati's civil rights history, that has relevance to contemporary concerns about educational access and metropolitan segregation. Presented March 10, 2015.
