“Expect. Don’t Accept.” That is the mantra that Cincinnati Enquirer columnist and author Paul Daugherty and his wife, Kerry, developed when raising their daughter, Jillian, who was born with Down syndrome. Jillian has now graduated from college, works to support herself, and was recently married.
Paul, Kerry and Jillian share their experiences as a family with a receptive audience at UC Blue Ash College. The inspiration for the presentation comes from Paul Daugherty’s book, An Uncomplicated Life: A Father’s Memoir of His Exceptional Daughter. Faithful readers of Paul’s work in the Enquirer have probably seen his references to the ‘Amazing Jillian’ over the years, as he documented significant moments in her life. Those stories and more are covered in the presentation and in the book.
The event was sponsored by the Association of Student Educators and the Behavioral Sciences Department at UC Blue Ash.
