Inclusion With Intent in Health Care Speaker Series: Keynote by Dr. Guy-Lucien Whembolua, "General Overview of Health Care Disparities"
Date Created:
Subject:Health Care
Research shows that gaps in patient care can occur when there is a lack of diversity or inclusion in the health care professionals who care for diverse patients. As the U.S. continues to evolve into a majority-minority nation by 2043, those of us who have a role in increasing the inclusive attitudes of health care professionals should take special note of the opportunities so we may be part of facilitating a change. In this series, speakers with professional expertise explore major diversity and inclusion issues and how they impact health care. Deepening the understanding of such health care disparities among health care professionals will set the stage for improved health care in the U.S.
Keynote Speaker: Dr. Guy-Lucien Whembolua is a behavioral scientist with general expertise in public health in low-income countries (global health), immigrant health and substance use among underserved populations (health disparities). He currently serves as the director of the Global Health Studies certificate and the Africana Health research laboratory, a global health research laboratory. He is an Assistant Professor of Health Policy and Management in the department of Africana studies at the University of Cincinnati.
Professor Whembolua is the current Program Chair of the American Public Health Association Caucus on Refugee and Immigrant Health.
